In language and literacy the main reading scheme is ‘New Ginn Reading 360’. ‘Jolly Phonics’ is used in the Infant Department to teach phonics. A variety of other resources are used throughout the school. For talking and listening the school has worked, last session, to develop the use of a new resource ‘Talking Round Corners’. This resource is used throughout the school and has proved very successful. In written language the ‘Lanarkshire Writing Pack’ scheme is being used in all stages and this ensures structure and progression. The study of selected novels provides pupils with a variety of opportunities to learn and practise language skills, which are also developed in other areas of the curriculum. At each stage there is a good supply of library books and pupils are given opportunities for silent reading.
